Meghan Markle says she has changed her famous last name

Meghan Markle has made a bold change by adopting “Sussex” as her last name, following the lead of her husband, Prince Harry, and their children, Archie and Lilibet. In her new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, she revealed that “Sussex” is now her surname, which raised eyebrows, as some questioned the move due to her limited ties to the county.

Meghan explained that using “Sussex” is meaningful to her because it’s their family name now, especially after having children. She described it as part of their love story. Meghan’s decision to adopt the surname has caused some controversy, with critics suggesting her last name should be “Mountbatten-Windsor,” and her father, Thomas Markle, expressing disappointment over her distancing from the Markle name.

While some royal family members use titles as surnames (like Prince Harry using “Wales” in the military), Meghan’s use of “Sussex” in informal settings like interviews has still sparked debate. However, the name change follows a tradition, and Meghan will likely still be referred to as “Markle” in media. Despite the criticism, the decision has sparked much discussion about royal names and titles.
