Pope Francis’s last public appearance leaves profound message

On Easter Monday, the Vatican announced the death of Pope Francis, who had been battling double pneumonia. Despite his illness, the Pope made a brief final appearance on Easter Sunday, offering blessings from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica.

Due to his health, Cardinal Angelo Comastri led the Mass, and the Pope’s traditional “Urbi et Orbi” message was delivered by an archbishop. In what became his final Easter address, Pope Francis condemned the violence in Gaza, called out rising antisemitism, and emphasized the need for religious freedom and peace.

The Pope had been hospitalized recently and missed several Holy Week events. He will be remembered for his deep faith, compassion, and lasting legacy.
