Pope Leo XIV Urges World Leaders To End All Wars In First Sunday Address

In his first Sunday blessing from St. Peter’s Basilica, newly elected Pope Leo XIV urged world leaders to seek peace, calling for a Gaza ceasefire, peace in Ukraine, and praising the India-Pakistan truce. Echoing Pope Francis, he warned of a “third world war in pieces” and wished all mothers a happy Mother’s Day.

Pope Leo, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, has drawn attention for past social media posts critical of Donald Trump and his administration’s immigration policies. Despite this, Trump congratulated him on Truth Social, calling his election a “great honor” for the U.S. and expressing interest in meeting the first American pope.
