Pope Leo XIV’s brother reveals his stance on Trump’s policies

Just weeks ago, Robert Francis Prevost was a little-known cardinal from Chicago. But on May 8, he stunned the world by becoming Pope Leo XIV, the first American-born pontiff.

His choice of name has raised eyebrows — the last Pope Leo (Leo XIII) was known as “the social pope,” who defended workers and the poor. Many see Leo XIV’s name as a signal that he may follow a similar path of advocacy and bridge-building.

Though the Vatican has not revealed much about his political positions, Pope Leo XIV has already shown signs of taking a stand — reposting criticism of Donald Trump, opposing extremist interpretations of Christianity, and calling out “violations of human dignity” in his first sermon.

His older brother, John Prevost, a retired Catholic school principal, described Leo as a centrist, but confirmed he’s deeply concerned about immigration issues and unlikely to remain silent on them.

This mirrors past comments by Pope Francis, who openly criticized Trump’s immigration policies and border wall plans.

Pope Leo XIV, a Villanova graduate and lifelong sports fan, also enjoys tennis, movies like Conclave, and cheering for teams like the Chicago White Sox and Peru’s Alianza Lima.

While the world watches to see how he’ll lead, one thing is clear: Pope Leo XIV blends deep conviction with humility and is ready to speak out when it matters most — even if it challenges powerful voices around the globe.
