Actor Gary Sinise Mourns Son’s Tragic Passing After Brave Cancer Battle

Actor Gary Sinise has opened up about the heartbreaking loss of his son, Mac, who died on January 5, 2024, at age 33 after battling a rare bone cancer called chordoma.

The devastating diagnosis came just two months after Sinise’s wife, Moira, was diagnosed with stage-three breast cancer in 2019. While Moira has since recovered, Mac’s cancer returned even after surgery.

Sinise paused his acting career to care for Mac, spending months in hospitals and searching for hope. “I started putting everything I had into trying to find a miracle for Mac,” he said.

Despite their efforts, Mac’s condition worsened. “He didn’t want to go,” Sinise shared, “but I know he was at peace in the end.”

Now focused on family, Sinise says he’s in no rush to return to Hollywood. “Since losing Mac, I hold my daughters a lot tighter,” he said. “You think about the things that are really important.”
