Prosecutors want Sophie Roske, who admitted to plotting the assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, sentenced to at least 30 years, calling the plan “bone-chilling” and an attack on the U.S. government. Roske was arrested in June 2022 outside Kavanaugh’s Maryland home after traveling from California with weapons and tools. Prosecutors say she intended to influence Supreme Court decisions, particularly after the leak of the draft opinion to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Defense attorneys are asking for eight years, citing Roske’s mental health struggles and gender identity. They submitted an apology letter in which Roske expressed remorse to Kavanaugh and his family. U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman will sentence Roske on October 3, with prosecutors arguing her actions amount to terrorism and demand decades in prison.
