Veteran Trucking Business Closes Doors After 35 Years

Australian freight company XL Express has shut down after entering voluntary administration, ending a 35-year run and cutting 200 jobs. The collapse has left goods stranded, customers scrambling, and major supply chains between Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane severely impacted.

Administrators from FTI Consulting are assessing whether the business can be saved or liquidated. The downfall highlights growing pressure on Australia’s trucking sector—hit hard by rising costs, labor shortages, and tight margins.

This marks the latest in a string of transport failures, including Don Watson Transport and Scott’s Refrigerated Logistics, signaling deeper problems in the industry.
