India’s Enforcement Directorate raided eight Bengaluru offices linked to George Soros’ Open Society Foundations and Soros Economic Development Fund, accusing them of violating foreign funding rules. Investigators allege that crores were funneled into Indian NGOs and companies through fake consultancy fees and FDI routes to bypass restrictions imposed in 2016.
Among those under scrutiny is Aspada Investments Pvt Ltd, reportedly tied to Soros’ operations in India. The raids highlight India’s intensified crackdown on foreign-funded organizations, while critics warn the move could carry political undertones. OSF and SEDF have not commented on the investigation.
