Trump releases classified files on JFK assassination

WASHINGTON — On Tuesday, President Donald Trump’s administration released what it described as all the classified government files concerning the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy. This move made tens of thousands of pages of previously unreleased records available to the public.

The release follows an executive order signed by Trump on his first day in office in January, which aimed to fully disclose government documents related to the assassinations of Kennedy, his brother Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, D-N.Y., and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

It was unclear initially whether the newly released documents contained any previously undisclosed information. Historians noted that they would need time to review the large volume of files to determine if they offered anything significantly new compared to prior releases.

These documents were not expected to alter the long-established conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the assassination of Kennedy on November 22, 1963, during his motorcade in Dallas, Texas.
