FCC Chief to Brief GOP on George Soros Investigation Progress

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr will brief Republican lawmakers on the ongoing investigation into George Soros’ influence over local radio stations, particularly following his firm’s acquisition of over 200 Audacy stations.

The closed-door meeting with the Republican Study Committee will address GOP concerns about the $415 million deal’s swift approval during a Chapter 11 restructuring. Lawmakers worry that the FCC’s expedited review may have bypassed key safeguards on foreign ownership, potentially granting Soros outsized control over local media ahead of the elections. House Oversight Chair James Comer has criticized the FCC’s handling of the case, alleging political favoritism. Amid growing concerns over media consolidation and regulatory transparency, Republicans are pushing for stricter oversight to ensure media diversity and integrity, especially in a politically charged election cycle.
