Critics accused her of “praising” the conservative activist, but Curtis told Variety that her words were misunderstood. “It was a mistranslation,” she explained. “I wasn’t defending him — I was acknowledging his faith.” She went on to condemn the online backlash, saying society no longer allows nuance: “You can’t hold two ideas at once anymore. You’re either for or against — and that’s destroying empathy.”
